MasterCard/Visa Merchant Service

The ability to accept bankcards is crucial to the success of most retail businesses. At Peoples First, we understand and offer this ability through our MasterCard/Visa Merchant Service.

  • Local Representatives in our branches ready to serve you
  • Competitive rates on equipment
  • Simplified cost structure, no hidden fees
  • Supplies are provided free

What is Merchant Service?

Peoples First realizes that cash or checks are not always the most convenient means of transferring funds between customers and business owners. Bankcards have become one of the most widely used tools for making purchases. An ever-increasing number of customers are demanding the ability to pay with bankcards. To help you provide a more popular, easier method of payment for your customers, we offer MasterCard/Visa Merchant Services to our business account holders. You must have a physical storefront in order to use merchant service. However, if you have had a business checking account for more than one year with Peoples First, we will consider your request on a case-by-case basis.

The service we provide you allows your company to purchase MasterCard and VISA transactions of any amount, which are properly authorized. Through a process known as Electronic Data Capture (EDC), you will have the ability to transmit all MasterCard and VISA sales to Peoples First. All deposits are transmitted electronically and the merchant depository account receives credit within two (2) business days.

How Much Does This Service Cost?

Our charge for MasterCard/Visa Merchant Service is quite simple and is based solely on the business's average sale. The discount rate applied to all purchases is competitive. Our Merchant Service, unlike the service offered by many other banks, does not apply any additional fees such as:

  • Application fee
  • Set-up fee
  • Statement fee
  • Minimum monthly fee
  • Supplies fee

The only required equipment for EDC is an Electronic Cash register (ECR), a Personal Computer (PC) with appropriate software or a Point of Sale (POS) terminal. We offer (POS) terminals that are reasonably priced as well as trusted name brands. If purchasing the equipment doesn't suit your needs, we do offer a rental program for your convenience.

Will My Customers have the Ability to Pay with American Express and Discover?

Other card types such as Discover and American Express can be added. However, since Peoples First only processes VISA and MasterCard, we have no control over the rates assigned by these companies and we do charge a small transaction fee for each Discover and American Express sale.

How do I get Started?

Simply call our Bankcard Department at 1-800-624-9699. One of our Bankcard Representatives will meet with you to discuss your business and the potential benefits of establishing MasterCard/Visa Merchant Services.
